Qualified Improvement Property Talking Points

Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Doug Jones (D-Ala.) last week introduced legislation (S. 803) to fix a provision in President Trump’s 2017 tax-cut law that adversely affects the sprinkler industry.

We need the entire fire sprinkler industry to contact your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor S. 803.

Inspection Reports
A copy of the inspection report for an inspection performed pursuant to this subsection (f) must be forwarded by the entity performing the inspection to the local fire department or fire protection district in which the sprinkler system is located.
HB 5513 Identity Theft Bill Amends the Fire Sprinkler Contractor Licensing Act. Provides that any person who holds a license under the Act on the effective date of the amendatory Act must have a designated certified person in place who meets the requirements of the Act concerning designated certified persons within 180 days after the effective date of the amendatory Act. Specifies that a designated certified person must be a salaried, and not contractual, employee of the licensee at a business location with a valid license. Repeals grandfather clause.
HB 5664 Greek Housing Retrofit Bill Requires smoke detectors to have electrical back up and Franternities and Sororities to have Fire Sprinkler Systems.
Amendment to House Bill 1887 Each license must be renewed every 2 years. Each licensee must complete 16 hours of continuing education in the 2-year period following his or her renewal or initial licensure after the efective date.
