Each year, the month of May is recognized as Building Safety Month worldwide. The public awareness campaign, which was founded by the International Code Council, is designed to “help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.”
Each year, the concept of fire sprinklers typically correlates with one of the weekly themes for the month. In 2017, the theme for Week 4 (May 22-28) is “Investing in Technology for Safety, Energy & Water Efficiency” correlates best with fire sprinklers.
Fire sprinklers are one of the most important technologies designed for occupant safety in buildings. That’s why they are included in the main body of all the national model codes. When communities have the most up-to-date building codes and standards, they are ensuring fire safety for lives, properties, and investments with the presence of fire sprinklers.
