On April 5, the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board (NIFSAB) presented a class on NFPA 20 (Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection) to more than 80 building and fire officials at Sprinkler Fitter Local Union #281.
NFSA consultant Brad Cronin guided participants through the basic operating principles of fire pumps; the components that make up fire pump packages, and the requirements for acceptance testing for fire pumps to ensure proper operation.
Each attendee received a certificate for 7 CEUs and the NFPA 20 standard booklet. It was NIFSAB’s major effort to teach dozens of new fire officials and inspectors about the basics of fire pump technology and to show the importance of annual testing. Last year, Chicago alone listed over 5,000 fire pumps. The class helped us build relationships with officials to promote fire sprinklers.
