On April 13, fire officials from throughout Illinois traveled to Springfield for Fire Service Legislative Day. They talked with state legislators about important issues regarding the fire service and fire safety. Even fire sprinklers were an important topic as many legislators visited a fire sprinkler demonstration trailer outside the Capitol. A total of 35 live fire sprinkler demonstrations were conducted.
Representative Donald Moffitt was recognized with a customized, mounted fire axe plaque and House Resolution 1104 for his many years of service as a co-chair on the Fire Caucus and his longstanding commitment to the fire service. The axe was a gift from members of the Illinois Fire Services Association, fire departments, and the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board.
“This recognition was completely unexpected,” said Moffitt. “I am truly humbled. It is my sincere hope that through my service in the Legislature; because of the folks in fire services; that Illinois is a little bit safer, with more trucks and more training and more funds for our emergency services.”
