On February 27, a mixture of 38 Chicago Fire Department officials and contractors attended a class about NFPA 14, which is the standard for the installation of standpipe and hose systems. John Corso, national training manager for the National Fire Sprinkler Association, was the instructor. “This is a continuation of efforts to improve and open the lines of communication with the Chicago Fire Department, while allowing contractors who work in Chicago to get to know the fire department staff,” says Tom Lia, executive director of the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board. “It will also help the inspectors correctly write up violations to ensure proper operation of standpipes in buildings.”  ]]>
