This year, Fire Prevention Week (FPW), runs from Sunday, October 9, to Saturday, October 15. In line with the National Fire Protection Association‘s (NFPA) theme for this year’s FPW, “Protect Your Family from Fire,” fire departments across the nation will be visiting schools and hosting events to discuss the dangers of fire and how fires can be prevented. Perhaps the greatest ways to demonstrate fire prevention and safety is to host a live side-by-side fire sprinkler demonstration that displays the difference between a fire in a room that is sprinklered versus a room that is unsprinklered. Here in Illinois, the following fire departments will be hosting side-by-sides leading up to and during Fire Prevention Week:   Saturday, October 8 (one day before FPW begins) Hinsdale Fire Department Merrionette Park Fire Department Orland Fire Protection District Pleasantview Fire Protection District Warrenville Fire Protection District Sunday, October 9 Lockport Township Fire Protection District Peotone Fire Protection District Manteno Community Fire Protection District Wednesday, October 12 Downers Grove Fire Department Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board Executive Director Tom Lia notes that there will be an approximate total of 35 side-by-sides completed in the region this season, which is the most in any one area of the country. Another great way to demonstrate the effectiveness of fire sprinklers is through the use of a fire sprinkler trailer. The following Illinois fire departments will be hosting fire sprinkler demonstrations with the trailers¬†leading up to and during Fire Prevention Week: Saturday, October 8 (one day before FPW begins) Countryside Fire Protection District Sunday, October 9 Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department Wednesday, October 10 Western Springs Fire Department Tuesday, October 11 University of Illinois Friday, October 14 Round Lake Fire Protection District]]>
